SUMMARY:PSA General Meeting: Create & Use Compost
DESCRIPTION:Creating a Compost Pile and Using Compost Fertilizer\nSven Bors-Koefoed \nSven grew up in a family that was passionate about gardening. His parents maintained a large garden\, and he was involved in tending to it from an early age. He learned about composting after a neighbor gifted them a subscription to the magazine Organic Gardening\, and he was influenced by the author Ruth Scott and her composting methods. \nWith support from his father\, he became a beekeeper at the age of 15 and has remained an avid beekeeper ever since. Sven’s interest in plumeria was sparked during travels in South America as a Houston and Pasadena Bee Associations member while studying “killer bees.” During these travels\, he was captivated by the beautiful\, resilient plants that thrived in harsh environments\, such as the cracks in rocks on the sides of mountains—these plants were called plumeria. Upon returning to Houston\, Sven discovered the Plumeria Society of Houston and has been an active member of the Houston Chapter since the 1980s. He served one term as president of the Plumeria Society of America. \nSven has traveled to Venezuela\, Mexico\, Bali\, Thailand\, and Hawaii\, where he collected various plumeria trees. He is currently part of the Galveston County Master Gardeners class of 2023. Sven has delivered seminars on composting to various garden clubs and fellow Master Gardeners. Plants and nature are an essential part of his life. \nDuring our May meeting\, Sven will enlighten us on how to set up a compost pile\, and how to use compost as fertilizer for your plumeria and garden plants.

Proper care for a newly rooted cutting\n\nMark has been familiar with plumerias since he worked in a nursery while in high school and has been a member of the PSA since 1996. He served as Vice President in 2009\, two consecutive terms as President 2010-2014\, and again as President 2016-2018. Mark succeeded Eulas Stafford as the Registration Chairman of the PSA in March 2017.
